support on a Texas constitutional amendment in order to guarantee that the State must adequately provide facilities, maintenance, and current learning materials as well as a guaranteed protectable right to a formal and fair education. We were asked to come back during the 2013 Legislative period with overwhelming public support. Our mission now is to gather signatures from at least 30% of the registered voters within the state. If we are successful this amendment will ensure that the state must adequately fund Texas public schools. The amendment we are fighting for is: TEXAS CONSTITUTION ARTICLE 7 EDUCATION THE PUBLIC FREE SCHOOLS Sec. 1. SUPPORT AND MAINTENANCE OF SYSTEM OF PUBLIC FREE SCHOOLS. A general diffusion of knowledge being essential to the preservation of the liberties and rights of the people, it shall be the duty of the Legislature of the State to establish and make suitable provision for the support and maintenance of an efficient system of public free schools. Amendment shall read: The state must adequately provide facilities, maintenance, and current learning materials, as well as staff for the public free schools. A child who is at least five years of age and not over the age of eighteen shall have a legal protectable right to a formal and fair education for children who reside in the state legally. No person or government official or government entity shall have the right to limit or take away this right or limit access to a formal and fair education. We are gathering petitions to take back to the Senators in 2013 in order to get the votes necessary to put this constitutional amendment on the ballot. We are asking for you to join us to prevent the Texas Legislature from continuing to under-fund public education as well as continuing to deny Texas children the right to an education. If you would like to add your name to the petition you may download and print the petition form and mail it to: S.F.A.C.A. 3005 S. Lamar Blvd. Ste. D109-177 Austin, TX 78704 |
